Fat Caturday

This is Orazi, a 35.2lb cat from Italy. At 28+ pounds over the suggested weight of a cat with his bone structure, he's the weight of a 2 year old human child. The London Sunday Mail (t.r.a.s.h.y!) featured a light-hearted article about him on their website, but Orazi, I've got some bad news for you:

As a former veterinary technician, I can testify to seeing many, many overweight cats with 'the diabeetus' and it is not cute...it's sad, especially when in many cases it can be prevented. Pet obesity is definitely not worth flaunting in articles with "aw, look, my cat's so fat he can't even get his head in the door."



Now in Orazi's case, they're not sure if his obesity is being caused by a medical problem, but I read that the Guinness Book of World Records actually get rid of their of their "World's Fattest Cat" category, as people were purposely overfeeding their cats to win the record. Yeesh.

Anyway: don't overfeed your cat. It's not cute and it should probably be considered animal cruelty. And if you're still not convinced, Wilford Brimley would like to have a word with you:

Al Jaffee's Fold-ins for Mad magazine

I've never really read much Mad magazine, but if you keep up with the wiles of the world you can definitely appreciate the fold-ins feature of artist Al Jaffee. The New York Times has an interactive feature of the fold-ins from past and present. Pretty neat, it's worthy of your click.

Did you know the Bacon brothers are in a band called...The Bacon Brothers??



Um, yeah, neither did I. In fact, I didn't even know Kevin Bacon had a brother. Their albums include "White Knuckles," "Can't Complain," "Getting There," and of course, "The Bacon Brothers Live."



According to their fansite, baconbros.com, they're on tour all next week. If I could, would I go? Everything in my heart says no, but those blue eyes and a few scenes from She's Having a Baby make me want to say yes.

A Message from London

I plan to spend this spring getting braver on my bike when it comes to car traffic since I'm going to need those skills majorly in about 9 weeks. With that said, watch this video. It's only 1:00 and definitely worth your time for the sake of giggles and awareness:

The New York Times just put out a wonderful write-up on Barack Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro. If you've got the time, I highly recommend you read this article about this fascinating, compassionate, open-minded woman. Even if you're not an Obama supporter, it's worth your time. I wish more human beings, myself included, could have even an ounce of the fearlessness and understanding of the world that she exhibited her whole life.

If Celebs Were Okies

Now I admittedly suffer from Celebrity Blogoholism...I quit cold turkey and was clean from Oct 07-Jan 08 (thanks a lot, Heath Ledger.) After a brief (BRIEF!) relapse, I'm off the juice again and have been clean for 5 weeks. It's a disease, damnit!

However, since my self-induced Celebrity Blog rehab, I have never viewed pictures more enthralling than what I have posted below. I found these last night and they are so hilarious, they must be shared with the world.
